The Grade Is The Whole Job.

Stainless steel isn’t a single material it’s a family of grades, and picking the wrong one is the most common and most expensive mistake on any coastal project. 304 looks identical to 316 on the invoice. It does not look identical after two summers of salt spray on an Atlantic seaboard balcony.

Tea-staining, pitting, and eventual structural corrosion follow. We specify the correct grade, finish, and fixing system for the actual exposure and back it with the certification a structural balustrade needs to pass sign-off.

Common Questions About Steel & Balustrades

What's the difference between 304 and 316 stainless steel?

316 contains molybdenum, which dramatically improves resistance to chloride corrosion salt. 304 is fine for inland and interior applications, but on a coastal project it will tea-stain and pit within a season or two. The two look identical when installed; the difference only shows up after exposure. For anything within reach of coastal air, we specify 316.

Are your balustrades certified to the required line loads?

Yes. Balustrades are life-safety elements with code-mandated line-load requirements under SANS. We specify systems engineered to the applicable load for the building type domestic, public, or crowd and supply the certification and fixing details your engineer and building inspector will require for sign-off.

Can you supply frameless glass balustrades as a complete system?

Yes base channels, standoff fixings, spigots, and toughened-laminated glass, specified together as an engineered system. Frameless glass fails when components are mixed from incompatible sources or the glass isn’t rated for the load. We supply matched systems with the glass specification and fixing details worked out for your setting-out.

Do you supply to contractors and fabricators, or to the public?

We supply to contractors, fabricators, developers, and specifiers on a project basis. We’re a project-scale supplier of architectural metalwork and glass systems with technical specification support, not a retail counter. If you’re pricing a project and need certified systems in quantity, we’re the right call.

Why does commercial shower hardware cost more than retail fittings?

Because it survives. Consumer shower hardware uses lower-grade alloys and thinner sections that corrode and fail in a wet environment within a year or two — a warranty and reputation problem on a hospitality project. Our commercial-grade hinges, brackets, and channels are specified for daily wet-environment use, which is exactly what a hotel or high-end residential build needs.
